Whitefish Walk-Off in Deciding Game Seven

October 21, 2000, Coney Island, NY. In the UBA’s first Subway (Final Four) Series, the Whitefish took the Ruth Conference crown in exciting fashion. In an intense back and forth game, it looked as though NYC would be going back to the WCS for the 4th time since inception. But, in the bottom of the 9th, Edgardo Alfonso and Jason Tyner both reached base immediately, and role player Luis Garcia wasted no time with a walk-off double. Garcia was all of 3 for 10 in his big league career, and was only 1 for 13 in the playoffs. The injuries of Ochoa and Rivera forced him into the lineup, and he certainly made the most of the opportunity. “I’m just thankful for the chance to get out there and compete with these guys – it was a team effort!” Garcia was quoted saying as the champagne flowed in the locker room. “We’re coming for you, Pranksters!”

Palo Alto, who clinched yesterday, is white hot, and will be a formidable opponent to the Whitefish. Not only are they representing the Aaron Conference for the 4th year in a row, but were able to knock off 112 win Portland in 6 games. “We’ve been here before, and we know how to win when it counts. The Whitefish are a great young team, we look forward to the challenge” Pranksters captain Derek Jeter said in his post game presser.

Experts pick: Palo Alto over Coney Island, 4 games to 1.
