Spartans Sneak Past Rebels, 8-7
|
Behind the hitting of António Sánchez, the San Francisco Spartans stopped the Charleston Rebels, 8-7. Sánchez went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Spartans. James Boyd earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. The win moves San Francisco to a record of 15-11.
Sánchez had a game-changing double in the top of the 12th. On a full count fastball from Wiel Gommers, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Spartans a 8-7 lead. It was the 7th double of the year for Sánchez.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Sánchez told the San Francisco Today.
